Report: Com service may block Yandex pages with disputed content

MOSCOW, Aug 29 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has officially warned Internet company Yandex that if it does not delete links to illegal copies of series in its video section by Friday, corresponding pages on yandex.ru will be blocked, business daily Vedomosti reported late Tuesday on its website, citing the authority’s Deputy Director Vadim Subbotin.

Since many providers cannot correctly block separate pages, many users may lose access to Yandex.Video by September. It has been the first time the company is facing a threat of massive blocking.

Gazprom-Media Holding found out earlier that Yandex.Video contains pirated copies of the series its channels had aired. The channels went to court that imposed interim measures and asked the communications service to block the pages in question prior to consideration of the case on the merits.

Yandex will avoid blocking if it deletes the disputed content.
